Its the way they lose the games is the problem with no future in which as of now will ever change into a playoff spot so no we dont need to just cool it.

Agreed, there is no effort from the players, other than Santorelli..

most teams come out swinging after a coaching change...even after the scrutiny..this team did not...pretty concerning

"I would like to see improvements in play, character, heart, puck battles and some close games. If this cannot be achieved I think it's fair to say - Cut your losses, trade the captain et. al and move on."

I fear this will happen because it's now very clear that if that kind of play is the norm and not the variation, we know the variation is just around the corner at any time. It doesn't take four straight years and three coaches to figure out that it's not simply stretches of bad luck and/or coaching systems.

The only answer is to acquire and develop a young core under a certain philosophy/team identity. The only way to do this is for Pres. Shanahan to cut the architect(s) of the current core loose and hire someone with a clear plan and who shares that philosophy.

Paul Maurice was the last Toronto Maple Leafs coach to not finish any regular season with a losing record.

He's also the last Maple Leafs coach to rack up 40 wins in a season.

Sad that these players may not even be here next year when they deserve it.

Hey BINGO! You've been hanging around the Leaf threads more than normal lately. Is it the "misery loves company" effect?

Not really.

With the Leafs recent history, it's actually hard to believe that Paul Maurice DIDN'T have a season with a losing record.

This is exactly my point.

Paul Maurice's seasons as Leafs Coach had a .555 and .506 winning percentage.

Since then? .494, .451, .518, .488, .594 (lockout year), .512, .500

I remember when Maurice was coaching Leafs.............i thought he was terrible, even players complained there were no systems in place. Very surprised at his record! Think he was just a good motivational speaker for a while anyways

...You say it's not really a crazy stat, and then point out why it's a crazy stat.

I'd let Horachek ride the year out regardless of what happens. The last several coaching changes have had little overall impact on the club's success, and there's no reason to believe another change would do any good this year. Coaching and systems can only do so much for a team because at the end of the day they're limited by the talent they have to work with - at the end of the day the failure of the squad lies with upper management for a sorely-lacking roster.

Take it a step further, how long should be awarded to Horachek before the team is torn down? Same timelines apply.

Oh; I'd be quietly shopping players now, but the returns would have to make sense for the Leafs either from a cap-relief perspective or address some of the Leafs' big holes, which realistically is never going to happen until the offseason. I'm not a fan of making moves just to make moves - they have to make sense, and in Toronto that's an attribute that's been lacking in recent years.

Since they're unlikely to be able to afford to bring back Franson or Santorelli, I'd be okay moving them for picks. I'd hope to hell a contender has a few D go down with injuries and would be willing to take Robidas off our hands for a 7th round pick or future consideration. As far as major moves I'd hold off - I'd hold on to Kessel, JVR, Bernier, Rielly, Phaneuf, etc. Unlike many, I think Phaneuf is an asset to the Leafs and their D would be much worse off without him, but I would move him if I could package him with a dead weight contract like Clarkson - but then again, it's unlike there are any contenders desperate enough / have enough cap room to take that on.

Just a question not trolling, what would the Leafs ask for Kessel if they decide to move him ?

He's a franchise winger so your best young roster player, your top prospect and your 1st round pick
